Front desk time calculator
Time spent transcribing passports by hand.Three readers, three jobs
Full-page reader
Full data page — image, MRZ, chip, plus UV and IR checks that read security features invisible under normal light.
Half-page reader
Reads the MRZ and chip in a compact footprint — the data, without the forensic authenticity layer.
Card-style reader
Reads NID, driving licence and residence permit cards — the resident-side counterpart to a passport reader.
| Type | What it reads | Where it belongs |
|---|---|---|
| Full-page reader | Complete passport data page — image, MRZ, chip, plus UV and IR security checks | Immigration desks, visa centres, banks — anywhere document authenticity is checked, not just read |
| Half-page reader | MRZ and chip, compact footprint | Hotel front desks, airline counters — reads the data without the forensic layer |
| Card-style reader | ID cards, NID, driving licence, residence permits | Bank onboarding, retail, membership desks |
What it replaces at a hotel front desk
- The photocopier. A grey copy of a passport is not a record anyone can search, audit or produce on demand.
- The typing. Name, passport number, nationality, date of birth, expiry — five fields keyed by hand, per guest, with a queue forming.
- The filing cabinet. Foreigner registration records that an inspector can actually be shown, rather than a drawer.
Bangladesh visa policy requires a hotel or tour booking for the duration of stay, so every hotel taking foreign guests is already keeping these records. The question is whether they are keeping them in a form that survives an inspection.
Where it earns its place beyond hotels
| Sector | Application |
|---|---|
| Banks & MFS | NRB account opening, foreign national onboarding, e-KYC document capture |
| Visa & consular services | Application intake, document authenticity verification |
| Airlines & travel agencies | Booking, check-in, APIS data capture |
| Corporate & EPZ | Foreign staff registration, contractor onboarding, visitor management |
| Hospitals | Foreign patient registration, medical tourism intake |
| Government offices | Service counters requiring verified identity |
Frequently asked questions
Price on request — the figure depends on reader type. A card-style reader, a half-page MRZ and chip reader and a full-page forensic reader with UV and IR sit at materially different price points. Tell us the desk and the volume and we quote the right one. WhatsApp +880 1979-234342.
MRZ is the two lines of machine-readable text at the bottom of the data page — optical, fast, and copyable onto a forged document. The chip is the ICAO contactless microprocessor inside an e-passport, cryptographically signed by the issuing authority. Reading the chip proves the document was issued by the state; reading the MRZ only proves what is printed on it.
Yes. Bangladesh has issued e-passports since 22 January 2020 and was the first country in South Asia to do so for all eligible citizens. The chip holds demographic and biometric data including all ten fingerprints and an iris scan, and the booklet carries 41 security features.
No law requires the device. The requirement is the record. Bangladesh visa policy requires foreign guests to have hotel bookings and hotels register them, so the register already exists in every hotel. A reader changes it from a photocopy in a drawer to a searchable digital record — which is what matters when someone asks to see it.
That is a card-style reader rather than a passport reader. Both can sit at the same desk, and for a bank onboarding counter under the new e-KYC rules you will usually want both — NID for residents, passport for non-residents.
A full-page reader with UV and IR illumination checks security features that are invisible under normal light. It is a strong first-line check, not a forensic determination — it flags documents for a trained officer to examine. A half-page or card reader does not perform this check at all, which is the main reason to specify full-page at a visa or immigration desk.
