What the FR1500S is
The ZKTeco FR1500S is an IP65 stainless-steel flush-mounted osdp / rs-485 fingerprint reader, supplied in Bangladesh by DigiMark Solution as an Authorized Distributor of ZKTeco.
A reader is not a controller. It captures a credential and passes it to an access control panel or terminal, which holds the user database and drives the lock. If you need a device that opens a door on its own, you need a standalone terminal instead. We say this plainly because ordering a reader expecting a working door is the most common mistake in this category.
Key features
- OSDP with AES128 — the security specification that matters — Wiegand sends the card number in clear text down the cable, and it has been trivially attackable for years. OSDP v2.1.7 with AES128 encrypts the link between reader and controller. For banks, government, and defence installations, this is the difference between a compliant reader and one that will fail a security review.
- Z-ID sensor at 500 DPI — 15.24 × 20.32 mm collecting area producing a 300 × 400 pixel image. Higher-resolution capture is what allows reliable verification on difficult fingers, and it is the newest sensor generation in the FR range.
- SUS304 stainless steel with IP65 — Not painted steel — SUS304 resists corrosion in coastal and humid conditions. For a gate in Chattogram or an exposed entrance in monsoon, the material specification matters as much as the IP rating.
- Encryption can be switched off deliberately — Some legacy controllers cannot handle AES128. The FR1500S lets you disable it in software rather than forcing a controller replacement — a practical concession that avoids a much larger project.

How it works
The reader sits at the door and captures the credential. It sends the identifier to the controller over its communication interface (OSDP v2.1.7 and ZK-RS485). The controller checks the identifier against its user database and access rules, then energises or releases the lock. Feedback — the LED and buzzer on the reader — reflects the controller's decision, not merely that a credential was read.
